I know most lists are usually of the Top 10 variety, but sometimes ten spots just aren’t enough. Even having twenty still forced me to cut some of my favorites from the list. A Top 30 would have been a bit much, so this is a good compromise. I’ve decided to separate the list into two entries to make it more manageable. So who made the cut? Find out after the jump.
20. Galatea (Claymore)
We kick off this list with Claymore’s knockout beauty, Galatea. With killer looks, superb skills, and a slightly haughty attitude, the gallant Galatea is a cut above her Claymore brethren. She has a prominent presence for one of the show’s many secondary characters.

19. Rei Ayanami (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
Rei has fallen out of favor over the years but retains her obligatory place on the list. If this was two years ago, she would actually have been somewhere in the Top 5. Alas, Rei is still one of anime’s classic, quintessential female characters. It would be blasphemy to not have her here.

18. Ryoko Asakura (The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya)
Ah Ryoko, that crazy yandere. Her cheerful facade belies her true dark nature, but she’s still a cutie. It’s just too bad she didn’t get more screentime before her departure.

17. Aono Morimiya (Sola)
Sola’s delightfully creepy nee-san takes the 17th spot. I really dig her character design and the awesome origami power. Sure she’s overbearing, but I really felt for her character and backstory. That’s not to say I don’t like Matsuri, but I’m more of an Aono fan.

16. Hinagiku Katsura (Hayate the Combat Butler)
Hinagiku is an all-around likeable girl. She has a pleasant personality with the occasional mildly tsundere outburst. I was also sold on her Utena cosplay earlier in the show’s run.

15. Nagisa Furukawa (Clannad)
The antenna haired, dango daikazoku fanatic punches in at spot number 15. I don’t see why Nagisa is so disliked simply because she isn’t Kyou or Tomoyo. The world needs more Nagisa love.

14. Manaka Komaki (To Heart 2)
The good-natured class rep that tries too hard to help others makes her appearance here. I know most To Heart 2 fans would pick Tamaki or Lucy for their lists, but I like Manaka the best.

13. Kagami Hiiragi (Lucky Star)
Taking lucky number 13 is the tsukkomi and smarter half of the Konata-Kagami comedy duo. Despite being the straight man in the comedy routine, Kagamin has a lot of funny moments. I really think she’s the glue that holds the group together.

12. Shana (Shakugan no Shana)
Shana the Flame Haze.
So tsundere and so moe.
Urusai times three.

11. Yakumo Tsukamoto (School Rumble)
A classic beauty in every sense of the term. Calm, serene, and gentle are just a few adjectives to describe what makes her so captivating. Oh yes, go go Onigiri!

That does it for the lower section of the list. Tune in tomorrow for the Top 10.

20 is the best, right? Galatea rules. Especially if you’ve been reading the manga…
20 would be the best in Bizarro world, but I still love Galatea. I have to catch up on the scans, since other stuff has been keeping me away from Claymore. =D
I agree with the first guy here, Galatea is great. And you summarized well, a rather prominent presence for a secondary character.
