Well that’s one week down, looking ahead to Anime FestPosted by: Yamcha in UncategorizedThree days of classes over, and I’m already burned out. Not a good sign when the semester has barely started. What would Itoshiki-sensei say? Probably something about despair. That’s enough personal talk though. For those curious about the annotated blogroll (I’m looking at you C.I.), I’ll try my best to finally finish that up. I suck at annotating though. I’ll probably just add all the links and then do quiet annotations when no one is paying attention. In other news, Anime Fest has totally snuck up on me. I didn’t even remember that it’s this weekend until yesterday. Guess other things have been keeping me busy. I won’t be doing coverage since Anime Fest is a small convention. Funny thing is that I could request a press pass, not like there’s much to report on. I doubt there will be any major announcements or licenses. Since there are plenty of dealers my main objective is to look for deals on DVDs and posters. Maybe get the Noizi Ito GUREN and Kaen artbooks if they present themselves. Can’t really think of anything else that I want off the top of my head. I’ll do a brief recap on Monday. In the meantime, updates will continue on a normal schedule. JUST AS PLANNED!
Touhou is a phenomenon in the realm of otaku and has rejuvenated the dying shoot ‘em up (shmup) genre. It’s hard to believe that Touhou had such a humble beginning and has been already been around for 12 years. The series has become such a juggernaut that even people that don’t normally play shmup games have dabbled in the depths of bullet hell. Seriously. Anyway. Studio Ghibli + Eureka Seven = Xam’d: Lost Memories. A new BONES production. As we all know, those are very very good. And Xam’d is some pretty funky stuff. We’ve got people that can turn into robots or something, we’ve got the damn ship with the dysfunctional bunch on board ala Gekkostate, and there’s this layer of Ghibli mysticism heavily laid out across the land. I can’t decide who’s had a bigger influence on the character design, because the protagonist is definitely BONES, but that red-head looks like she jumped right out of a Miyazaki production. So hay, I thought I’d download the first ep and take a look. Damn, but I was hooked. This is the good stuff. Its plot is currently a little haphazard, which was rather similar to how E7 started off, so I’m hoping it gets into the levels of EPIC WIN E7 wraps up with. But yeah. Watch Xam’d. It’s the best show this season you aren’t watching. Tags: Xam'dThis week’s featured girl is the hikikomori ojousama and aspiring manga artist, Nagi Sanzenin. What’s this? Two blonde, twin tailed, tsundere ojousamas in a row? Sure. Why not. Gotta love those blonde, twin tailed, tsundere ojousamas after all. While Nagi has a very cynical attitude, her reclusiveness makes her quite naive about the world as well. She may not be the most likeable girl around, but her quirks and wild imagination make her interesting.
EarthBound: King of the cult classics Was this Super Nintendo RPG really so good I named myself after it? Oh yes, yes indeed. Earthbound’s solid fundamentals, unique setting and bizarre sense of humor have kept it fresh a decade later, and if you need any evidence just take a look at the fan community. Loyal legions of Earthbound fans are still alive and kicking after years of letter campaigns, call-ins and other ventures that have tried to bring more of Mother (as it’s known in Japan) to the West.
Yuuto and Haruka attend Comiket to buy a doujinshi from her favorite circle, A Cat Bus Stop. They have to wait in line at the booth and a nasty, smelly otaku snatches the last copy before Haruka can buy it. Yuuto is outraged by the vile otaku’s actions, but Haruka persuades him to let it go. Nanami takes it upon herself to take back the doujinshi and gives it back to Haruka in disguise. This week we feature School Rumble’s super sexy tsundere, Eri Sawachika. She has a very alluring charm that I can’t quite put my finger on. While Eri looks like just another snobby tsundere on the surface, she becomes a much more complex character as her personality is fleshed out during the course of the series. I’ve decided it’s time to go to one of the two big anime conventions next year as I’m long overdue for a change of scenery in conventions. So which convention reigns supreme? I’m leaning towards Otakon but AX doesn’t look like a bad choice either. Some advice from people that have gone to either of these cons would be appreciated. In return I offer a pirate’s bounty of moe pictures.
While walking to school with Nobunaga, Yuuto bumps into the pink haired girl yet again, only this time she’s wearing his school’s uniform. The new transfer student formally introduces herself in class as Shiina Amamiya and is an instant hit with the entire class, particularly the guys. |
