Slow, me, etc. It takes me a long time to finish a show when I’m not into the series. As such I really had to force myself to finish Kanokon. And man do I have a couple things to say about it.

Kanokon was a terrible mess. Story… Did it have a story among all the shameless fanservice and heart shaped nipples? Not really. The story was a joke. Most of the time it was just about Chizuru shoving her breasts into Kouta’s face and trying to get into his pants against his will. Halfway through, the story tried to get serious when a mysterious girl, Minori, began to pursue Kouta for unexplained reasons. That subplot was dropped when she was defeated. I know Kanokon is going to get a sequel but this subplot was left hanging in the middle of the series. Considering that Minori went through a lot of trouble to separate Chizuru from Kouta, she gave up easily when she was defeated. Also the whole concept of the animal spirits wasn’t adequately explained. Like why they exist and why the hell so many of them are gathered in a single school for starters. More padding for the inevitable sequel.

The main thing I really disliked was Chizuru, who was nothing short of a rapist in perpetual heat. I genuinely felt bad for Kouta because he was constantly being molested by the sexually aggressive Chizuru. He was a good kid that crossed paths with the wrong girl. Since Chizuru’s a girl, her forced sexual advances are deemed ‘acceptable’ and ‘hot’. On the other hand, if we reverse the genders and Chizuru becomes a guy in constant sexual pursuit of a loli, things don’t go over so well. A male Chizuru would get a huge backlash from damn near everyone. Chizuru is one of the few instances of a character I really despise to the core (the first being Miyako Miyamura). I also didn’t like how Chizuru treated everyone around her like garbage, in particular her brother Tayura, who is at her constant beck and call. If you can look past Chizuru’s inflated breasts and heart shaped nipples, there is absolutely nothing to like about her. She’s a selfish bitch with no redeeming qualities.

Nozomu and the ninja twins, Ren and Ai, were pretty much my only reasons for finishing Kanokon. In fact most of the cast was halfway decent except for Chizuru. Call Nozomu a Yuki Nagato clone if you wish, but I thought she was hilarious. While Nozomu also made the occasional advance towards Kouta, she mostly knew where to draw the line, whereas Chizuru constantly escalated her advances to unacceptable levels. The ninja twins I liked simply because they were so moe.

Long story short, Kanokon is stuck somewhere between casual fanservice and flat out hentai without being good at either. Most fanservice shows are light and innocent fun. Fanservice shows aren’t supposed to be great or anything, but Kanokon was just plain raunchy and left a bad taste in my mouth. Kanokon wouldn’t have been so bad if Chizuru wasn’t a rapist. Watch it if you want to. Just don’t say I didn’t warn you.
