Happy Halloween! Unfortunately, studying. T-T

In my corner of the world, until a few years ago Halloween was just something that the pampered rich celebrated within the safety of gated suburbia. And the costumes were not all scary: I remember my sister reporting that she’d seen an entire family dressed up in Japanese attire for their night of trick-or-treating, complete with (what looked like) real – read: massively expensive – silk kimonos.

Of course, count on the barons of commerce to turn this holiday for the privileged into a money-making lure for the masses. Now the shopping malls are filled with kids rushing about from store to store, squeezing as much candy (or for the lucky few, cold hard cash) as they could from helpless shopkeepers.
