While bringing over some leftovers for Sunohara, Tomoya and Nagisa witness Sunohara enduring Misae’s wrath as they walk into the dorm building. The four then enjoy some tea and conversation in Sunohara’s room, where they learn that Misae’s cat doesn’t have a name.

Shortly afterwards, Tomoyo shows up seeking some advice from Misae, who obliges the request. After helping Tomoyo, Misae boots Sunohara out of the room for a private conversation with Tomoya and Nagisa. Misae suggests that Tomoya take Nagisa out on more dates and suggests going to the local fall festival, all the while Tomoya starts to fall asleep and has a dream about Misae’s past (at the beckoning of the cat?).

We are taken to the past, specifically Misae’s time in high school. Misae meets a strange boy named Katsuki Shima who promises to grant her one wish for helping him in the past. Misae initially treats Shima with disdain after he ruins her confession attempt, but she gradually warms up to him.

While waiting outside the school gate for Misae, Shima encounters Igarashi, the guy that Misae currently has a crush on. Igarashi tells Shima that he is aware of Misae’s feelings but cannot return them because he already has a girlfriend. Igarashi asks Shima to relay this message back to Misae for him. While trying to tell Misae this news, Shima breaks down in tears. Misae soon realizes what Shima was trying to convey to her when she sees Igarashi walking down the street with his girlfriend.

Could someone turn the lights down in here?

Hanging out in Sunohara’s room as usual.

Angry Misae = Pain for Sunohara.

Double trouble.

Don’t get all bent out of shape.

Attractive older woman.

A lolcat is fine too.

Fangirls love the shouta.

Shima: Mama always said life is like a box of chocolates.

Headlock followed by…

Monster Piledriver!

Victory! Misae has gained 50 XP.

Young Misae acts a lot like Kyou.

This shouta likes to be scolded.

These characters seriously need to stop waiting outside in the rain like idiots.

Misae: Don’t be such an emo kid.

Misae is a cutie.

Can we take him home with us?

Don’t cry. I’ll buy you some Taiyaki later.

Impressions:
That does it for the first episode of the Misae arc. Let’s get cracking on the impressions. Igarashi is so cowardly for not telling Misae that he can’t return her feelings himself. He knew her feelings yet rejected her in such a despicable, roundabout way. That’s not how real men do things. For shame! Shima seems like a good kid, but you just know something bad is going to happen to him since Key loves to pull on our heart strings.

Misae is another one of Clannad’s scary super powered women. Tomoyo has Chun Li’s thunderous kicks, Kyou has flying dictionaries and jump kicks, and young Misae can go toe-to-toe with a luchador. The common link that ties them all together is turning silly Sunohara into silly putty on a regular basis. Poor, poor Sunohara. After redeeming yourself in the last episode, you’ve gone back to your role as comic relief/punching bag.

The other world got quite a bit of screentime in this episode and it’s nice to see how Ush–I mean, the mysterious girl play with the robot. The orbs of light are steadily increasing and the other world is really bright with all the floating orbs now.

It doesn’t look like the Misae arc will be very long. I guess we’ll see how Misae and Shima first met and Shima will grant Misae’s wish… Get your tissues ready for next week. Then we can move on to better things like Yukine.

  1. i agree. what is it with anime girl confessing to boy but boy already has a girlfriend but didn’t want to tell confessing girl himself and has to tell someone to pass down the message!?

gordons last blog post…Fauna at the Beach

  2. It’s a variation of the I-Know-you-know-what-I-know-so-I’ll-order-a-Mcchicken-with-onions. Or however that Death Note Parody IRC chat log went.

  3. @gordon: It’s because they aren’t real men! They think it eases the blow to have someone else do it, but we should all know otherwise.
