Ladders, catapults, battering rams, siege towers? As demonstrated by Takeda Shingen, real men don’t need such trivial things to invade a castle. Just charge straight through the front gate and gallop up that wall, standing tall on your steed! 80 degree inclines and physics be damned!

Sengoku’s already epic manliness has doubled in the second episode with too much awesomeoness to fathom. In addition, Uesugi Kenshin’s aura is so manly that it causes his ninja vassal, Kasuga, to have some epic ninja orgasm with a mere touch.

Other highlights of this episode included Masamune charging through a sizable battalion, tossing dozens of soldiers around like rag dolls, and the second duel between Masamune and Yukimura that was somehow hijacked by Gainax midway through.

The show’s big bad, Nobunaga, finally made his grand appearance at the end of the episode by simultaneously foiling both Masamune’s and Yukimura’s plans while acting like an all around Grade A badass villain.

So yeah, Sengoku has been immensely enjoyable through two episodes. Both episodes have been a pure testosterone rush from start to finish with all thrills and no frills. If anime was food, normal shows would be dinky frozen dinners and Sengoku would be a 64 oz Porterhouse steak. Forget the potatoes, all you get is steak and you like it. Amidst all the ridiculous manliness, Sengoku does have some semblances of a story, but it feels like more of a formality. The skeleton story doesn’t hurt the cause though, as it does what it’s supposed to and guides the show along on its track. It looks like Yukimura and Masamune will try to take on Nobunaga’s goons in the next episode only to get completely owned. Another balls to the wall fight for a balls to the wall show. Put ya guns on!

PS: RIP Takeda’s horse. You were a noble steed.
