This post originally appeared on my personal blog – I’m just trying to give this breaking news wider coverage. To get the full picture, read the complete report on Anime News Network.
If untrue, come 24 May let’s all fly to Kadokawa’s corporate headquarters and seriously trash the place. If true, then the guesswork I made on 01 May (click here to read the original post) turns out to be correct after all:
Sasa no Ha Rhapsody will probably appear as one of the side stories in the second season.
The new episodes produced for the second season will probably be mixed into the “rebroadcast” of the first season.
If the chronological ordering of the Suzumiya Haruhi light novel series is strictly observed and the two preceding inferences are correct, the first episode of the new season will probably be an adaptation of Sasa no Ha Rhapsody and will probably air on 22 May or shortly thereafter, by which time – based on the 03 April start date of the “rebroadcast” – a gap will exist in the light novel material already covered by the first season. [emphasis added]
Now comes the difficult part: waiting for hard evidence. The Dark Kadokawa Empire cannot be trusted by its word alone.
EDIT (22 MAY 2009): IT’S HERE. RIGHT ON THE TICK.

I hope it’s true, but after the last “news,” I swore that I wouldn’t get excited about Haruhi 2 again until it actually arrives. I suppose I’m silently getting my hopes up, but I’ll try and distract myself with other things until the 24th comes around. Who knows, maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.
This was announced way too soon for it to start airing on May 22-ish. We’re going to have yet another Haruhi delay.
@ETERNAL: That’s a sensible approach to take. My own attitude towards the season 2 hype has been more or less the same these last three years: “Great if I see more; not so bad if I don’t (since there are the novels and tons of other anime to occupy myself with).” This could be why I find it easy to enjoy Kadokawa’s trolls, whereas some of our fellow fans can’t stop crying foul over them.
@Noirsword: Based on the update to the original report, this is beginning to sound like a deliberate “leak”. I think it may actually happen this time, but I don’t particularly care if it doesn’t – the spring season isn’t over yet anyway and there’s plenty of other good stuff out there.
