This is my desktop. Point and laugh.
I’m horribly out of the loop when it comes to VN news, but I just found out about the Kanon English patch yesterday. Say what you will about my slowpokeness. It’s okay. So after squealing like a little girl at a Jonas Brothers concert for five minutes, I finally got around to installing a… dubious copy of Kanon that’s been sitting on my HD for ages, along with the requisite voice and English patches.
Upon finally playing the game I was utterly mesmerized and blew a good three hours in the first sitting without realizing it… And this is why I don’t play VNs despite loving them so much — They’re too damn addicting. Yes, they’re even more addicting than jelly beans. I swore off VNs for the better part of two years, but maybe it’s something I can’t escape from. A great VN draws you in and doesn’t let go for a second. It makes you laugh, cry, and most importantly identify with its characters on a more intimate level since VNs are an interactive experience as opposed to passively watching an anime. Perhaps non-VN players will get the wrong impression when I say “intimate”, but there isn’t a better way to describe the feeling. Dictating the story and choosing your path (and girl) makes the experience much more personal compared to an anime.
Anyway that’s enough ranting. If it seems like I’m around even less than usual, you can chalk that up to alternatively crying and fapping to this spectacular VN. I already decided I’m going down the Nayuki path, hence the Nayuki screenshot. Screw the Taiyaki Thief, Meat Bun Fanatic, Demon Hunter and Dying Girl. I’ve got Cousin Lovin’ Strawberry Jam!
Go bother Emmy Award winning co-author Meultima in the meantime. I heard he’s currently playing a VN of his own, some nonsense about Umineko Wafers and Doki Doki Strike Witches or something. I’m not privy to all the details, but that’s what I surmised from spying on him from the bushes outside. By the way, I love what you’ve done with the place dude.
PS: I do plan to buy a legit copy of Kanon. The epic (and discontinued) Key Memorial Box would be awesome, but settling for a standalone copy isn’t so bad.

I lol at your Firefox browser title. Feito is awesome, therefore your wallpaper is awesome, therefore your desktop is also awesome.
LOL
I can be this way with good RPGs, or books.
I sometimes stay up with a book till 2-3 hours past my bed-time.

The fact that you were looking for “how to print screen” makes my day. XD
Protip: for application-only screengrab, press Alt + Prt Scrn.
Also, damn why would Kirameki die late last year?
TP´s last blog ..Well, Xedo Defense Is Dead.
Yes, they are very addicting… Last semester, I spent hours playing CLANNAD and trying to finish the Kyou and Kotomi arcs and they took more than 20 hours of my life.

Lies, my room is on the second floor.
can i pls get a link for the clannad games?
@Rockfest: Thanks. Azu-fate rocks my boxorz.
@Guy: I can usually exercise discretion with those two things. While I do like RPGs, I rarely marathon them except when trying to get through a pesky dungeon. The only games I recall that made me lose total track of time were Shenmue, all Zelda games, and VNs. With books I usually read a couple chapters and then put it down. Long story short, VNs are addicting and will consume your soul.
@TP: How mean. I don’t exactly have a Print Screen button on my keyboard and didn’t know the appropriate keyboard shortcut. In response to Hirameki, I surmise they died because for the following reasons.
1. Americans are stupid and don’t like to read.
2. VNs are a niche market in a niche otaku/anime market.
3. Their translations for the most part were very bare bones with several grammatical errors.
4. Weird DVD format for most of their early games. Passwords and slow loading FTL.
5. Most of their titles weren’t exactly power hitters. The Phantom, Ever17, Hourglass of Summer, and then…?
6. No porn.
7. Americans are stupid and don’t like to read.
Y’know, just a couple reasons Hirameki died.
@Chikorita: I feel your pain. I’ve got Clannad installed and ready to go, but I’m content to wait for the full patch. There are plenty of other VNs to play in the meantime. Kotomi will be first though when the day comes!
@Meu: Let’s say I’m sitting in a tree. Happy now? It’s your fault if a strong gust of wind comes by, thus causing me to fall and go into a seven year coma. My
moevengeful ghost will haunt you should should this theoretical situation happen. UWA HA HA HA HA!@thethorndog: Cough…Iso…Cough…Hunt… Man. I should get this cough checked out.
What’s the point of an on-screen keyboard?
That aside, I can relate to the various upsides of the VN medium, of course. Since I know I’ll only have the joy of playing Kanon once, I decided to hold back and marathon it this December, just for the mood

@ETERNAL: Like I said, this keyboard doesn’t have a print screen button, so I had to make do with my noobtastic on-screen keyboard. It sounds kinda tempting to go on a full Kanon run with both anime series and the VN during the winter.
