MASS SPOILER ALERT AND ALL THAT JAZZ THIS WAY.

Well, I guess I’ll talk about Macross Frontier first, since I watched that one up first. Macross Frontier was really my first forray into Macrossland, so I really didn’t know what to expect at first. But then we get this interstellar war between mankind and these uber-souped-up insects that eat Zerg for breakfast and come back for seconds. Mmkay, now we’re getting interesting! Unfortunately, I thought little of the whole love triangle between the three mains. Alto’s a big doofus, admit it.

One of the better parts of the series is Grace O’Connor. Early on she seems to be mostly just a background character, but halfway across she becomes… One of the most diabolical villains in animedom? Okay, what happened here? Personally, I’m not sure, but it’s quite awesome nontheless. Grace’s ruthlessness as she sets off the Dimension Eater, etc etc, was done in a rather cool manner. Of course, the final battle being on a ridiculously epic scale also didn’t hurt.

Another thing being that Macross’s 3D animation was pretty fluid and didn’t detract from the series for the most part, which is always a nice thing. Gonzo, HINT.

Overall it came off as a pretty entertaining series with some nice twists to the matter before the final albeit rather simplistic ending. I kinda wished I liked some of the characters more… I mean, I liked Brera better than any of the mains, for crying out loud. That’s just wrong.

Ma-kuross Furontia gets a B+ from yours truly. It delivered in the main things I watched it for, it actually had a somewhat competant and cool villain which was surprising for a show running on music and divas. Minus points for silly love triangle and somewhat rushed ending. Mostly for silly love triangle. If I ever come across another pair of rival divas competing over some clueless dork I will shove a .45 magnum between both their ears, so help me…

———————————-

Now, for Code Geass R2. Ah, R2. Here’s a rather interesting little series. It’s certainly garnered lots of attention, good and bad, from opposing sides of the spectrum. On the whole, it manages to be a mishmash of all sorts of entertainment. Robots, scheming, plot twists, comedy, action, whatever. Of course, with that comes the statement that it’s become something of a trainwreck, which I don’t really disagree with. However, I still found Code Geass overall something of a decent effort which I could get into, despite the numerous flaws that poked all over it. Somehow, they didn’t really jump out at me as much as they did for other people. Maybe it’s because I took it for what it was – An inexplicably entertaining over-the-top series. There wasn’t much to say about that, really. While I didn’t think Code Geass was the best thing since sliced bread, I really didn’t think it was really all that bad as the haters are harping, either. Am I wierd? I certainly hope so.

And here I shall share some of my thoughts about the ending. I actually thought the ending wasn’t as good as some fans (And even haters, surprisingly) are saying it is, but it was still a lot better than I dared hope for, in a sense. I would have liked more closure, but I’ll make do with what I get.

1: Nunally’s VA really outdid herself here. When her voice completely changed in her serious mode, I was like, wow, she doesn’t sound completely annoying anymore! Which was only accentuated when Lelouch geassed her and she used her stupid damsel voice again. Thankfully that didn’t last very long. Her scream at her realization of Lelouch’s death being drowned by the voices of the crowd rising all around her was also quite poignant and powerful, adding immensely to that final scene.

2: Suzaku vs Kallen FINAL BATTLE MODO was actually pretty cool too. I found it interesting that they focused a LOT on close-quarters battle, which made the mood of the fight itself a lot more intense. I didn’t actually expect Kallen to deal the finishing blow, but the little exchange they had was nice.

3: No pizza? Seriously? Nah, I’m sure I missed it.

4: Jeremiah Gottwald was awesome. Admit it. The guy pulled a double King Kittan Bureka. And Orenji Farm!
A nice throwback to the first series where his superiors threatened him to either take the demotion or be shipped off to an orange farm.

5: In the wedding picture, Anya had an Arthur hat. I just wanted to point that out. >_>

Okay, so that’s for it now.

Kood Geaasu gets a B+ from Miyu-san. A nicely done ending, despite my reservations, managed to put an end to a highly volatile series (In terms of trainwreck) in a nicely closing manner and was a nice finishing touch. Overall it was quite an interesting series, IMO at least. They played with some interesting ideas, and despite not being able to use everything to their fullest potential (Or even in a proper and rational manner, strictly speaking) I was able to enjoy the show for what it was.

And that’s all for now, folks! Thanks for reading. Tune in next time, same sporadic time, same erratic channel! Tata.
