Taken from today’s announcement over at ANN, Funimation picked up title and distribution rights for several shows from Geneon’s now defunct US branch. Noteable series include Ergo Proxy, Black Lagoon, Higurashi, Rozen Maiden, Shana, Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha, The Story of Saiunkoku, and The Familiar of Zero.

Sidenote: Yay Nanoha DVDs. The White Devil is finally coming to the states.

It was brought to my attention that the quiz show Jeopardy featured an anime column this past Wednesday, June 18th. It’s in the Double Jeopardy round, fifth column over. It figures that the one day I don’t watch the show, something like this happens.

I’m sure the otakusphere would have swept this easy category in epic fashion, only to be utterly owned in everything else. If you’re too lazy to click the link, I’ll copypasta the questions after the jump.

I saw a commercial for this on TV and just had to report this abysmal news to the otakusphere. Set to air on June 24th as part of ABC’s summer schedule is the new reality/game show entitled I Survived a Japanese Game Show. More info after the jump.

So you think you can make an eroge? Well now it’s possible… If you can write multiple scenarios, compose music, record voices, create sound effects, draw the characters, and script the entire thing. Still interested? If so, then check out two visual novel freeware Blade Engine and Renpy. Think of these programs as the RPG Maker equivalent for visual novels.

Making a visual novel is one thing. Making a good visual novel is something else entirely. Don’t forget to include the ero scenes!

This post will be called filler because it isn’t about any particular topic or anything. There were a couple quiet updates here and there on the backend that you probably won’t notice. You can also find Yamcha on MyAnimeList now. I’ll slowly add anime that I’ve seen over the years as I try to recall them. In my old age that might take a while.

The region 1 release of Lucky Star is out, and the consensus on the dub voices is generally positive. Also, if this is any indication, Bandai Visual is planning to release all six DVDs in limited edition variations to siphon even more cash from the collectors out there.

Going by the Lucky Star LE retail price of $65 US (which I’m assuming will remain stable), the total set for all the LE boxes will end up at $390 before tax. In a best case scenario you can get each LE box for ~$40, which is still an outrageous $240 for the whole set. Bandai struck gold with the Haruhi LE sets, so this is guaranteed profit. I’m on the fence about the frivolous extras, but the collector in me says to go for it. Cognitive dissonance’d.
